KPRC 2 was airing a segment with the Houston Humane Society to help find a precious little dog named Angel a home. But Angel was very impatient and just couldn’t wait her turn.
Weatherman Khambrel Marshall was giving his forecast for the Houston station when all of a sudden, little Angel made her way in front of the screen.
As soon as Marshall noticed her, he picked her right up and decided to include her in his forecast.
“We wanna make sure you get a lot of clean water. Make sure you keep your pets inside. You got keep water for you guys, right?” Marshall asked, looking at Angel.
While Marshall did a great job handling this unexpected situation, he does bring up a very valid point. With temperatures rising all over the country, it’s very important to make sure we know how to properly care for our pets in the heat.
The ASPCA offers ways animal lovers can help ensure their pets have a safe summer.
Dogs and cats can become dehydrated very quickly, so it’s vital to make sure you give them plenty of water when it’s hot outside. If you bring your pet outside with you, make sure there is shade for them to lay in.
Also, be sure that your dog doesn’t walk on hot asphalt, because it can burn their sensitive paw pads.

Also, it’s very dangerous to leave your animal in a car on a hot day. Even with the windows open, the temperature inside the car will quickly rise, which could leave your dog with heat stroke or even kill them.

It’s also important to know the symptoms of overheating in pets. According to Dr. Louise Murray, Director of Medicine at the ASPCA’s Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital, the symptoms of overheating in pets include “excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, seizures, and an elevated body temperature of over 104 degrees.”
