Cellist Performs for Shelter Dogs and It’s Too Powerful to Miss

Musician and dog lover Cheryl Wallace is on a mission to help shelter dogs. Wallace brings her cello to local animal shelters to play soothing classical music to the dogs living there. She says any musician can do the same.

“You do not have to be a virtuoso to play music which calms shelter dogs. What dogs are most calmed by is low and slow music,” she writes on her website, Cello 4 Dogs.

According to a recent study, classical music does indeed slow canine heart rate and lower the cortisol levels of dogs in a kennel environment.

So far, Wallace has performed over a dozen times at shelters around her hometown in Des Moines, Iowa and hopes others will be inspired to do the same.

We hope so, too!
